Ten minutes drive from the heart of Queenstown, Bivvy House enjoys panoramic views of Lake Wakatipu and nearby mountain ranges. Designed by Vaughn Mcquarrie, the two-bedroom alpine villa follows the lines of the mountainside by sloping down towards the view. The name is derived from ‘bivouac’ — an improvised campsite often sporting unconventional angles.
The interior is crafted with concrete and plywood, providing a balanced and relaxed atmosphere, complete with modern finishes and high-end appliances. Instead of creating a glass box, the windows were designed to offer a curated series of different views depending on the type of room. This creates a sense of shelter while also taking in the surrounding nature — an ideal escape from urban life.
