Take a touch of Scottish tradition, a few design-led guest amenities, a dose of contemporary style and some of the best views in Scotland’s capital and you get Market Street Hotel, Edinburgh’s latest opening.
Hop off the train at Edinburgh Waverley and the hotel is right across the street, nestled in between the tall sandstone buildings characteristic of the city and located right on the border of Old Town and New Town. All the must-visit spots are accessible by foot (the best way to explore) and when you want to venture slightly further afield, Princes Street tram stop is a mere five-minute walk away.
Step inside the pale stone exterior of Market Street Hotel and you’ll soon appreciate the modern take on Scottish design. The 98 guest rooms, with thick oak shutters that block out the sounds of the city and pale stone textured walls, are modern and fresh. Comfortable additions of colour and the odd tartan-covered cushion create a homely feel and complement the style of the city. In the bathrooms, toiletries from Votary are perfectly placed amongst the dark marbled sinks, while Alessi kettles, Dyson hairdryers and homewares from Iittala add functional design details to the space.
The hotel really comes to life on the 7th floor. It’s here that you’ll find the main reception area (there’s also a small concierge at the street entrance), as well as the hotel’s rooftop bar, restaurant and lounge, Nor’ Loft. Serving a la carte breakfast and small plates made using locally sourced ingredients for lunch and dinner and with a glass exterior that has you overlooking Edinburgh’s skyline, there’s no better place to start or end your day. Take a seat on one of the lounge chairs and take advantage of the 20 champagnes on offer while you soak up the city’s heritage.
