Nestled among volcanic mountains and terraced rice fields on Bali’s south-western coast, Soori Bali is an oasis of relaxation. The resort’s location was chosen for its positive energy, and guests soon realise that Soori Bali sets itself apart not only by distance but by its authentic expression of luxury.
Every detail of the resort’s design and construction was directed by celebrated architect Soo K. Chan, whose vision of maintaining a true sense of place can be seen in the use of locally sourced materials and the accentuation of outdoor spaces.
Upon arrival, guests are guided by the organic flow of the building over bridges and through light-filled courtyards, finally being met with a dramatic ocean view. Each element of Soori Bali’s design works in perfect synergy with its natural setting.
The serene ambiance is sustained throughout the resort’s 48 villas, each being afforded its own private pool with uninterrupted views of either the ocean and volcanic black sand beach, or the silhouetted mountains foregrounded by undulating rice fields.
The interiors of the Ocean Pool Villa are infused with cool earthy tones, and large windows allow light and air to flow through without compromising privacy. In addition to a luxuriously appointed bathroom with a large bathtub, an outdoor shower allows guests to maximise their enjoyment of the natural surroundings.
Those visiting with a large group can opt for the double-level, six-bedroom Soori Residence or the unsurpassable ten-bedroom Soori Estate. The latter can comfortably accommodate 20 adults, enjoys private access to its own spa therapy room and gym, and is serviced by a dedicated team of butlers, housekeepers and security guards.
When it comes to drinking and dining at Soori Bali, guests can choose between Asian cuisine with a focus on Balinese specialties at the open-air Cotta restaurant or premium international fare and creative cocktails at Ombak. A rotating à la carte breakfast menu allows diners to enjoy a wide selection of dishes with much less waste than a buffet, and mineral drinking water is supplied in glass bottles to reduce the need for single-use plastic.
The resort is equipped with a small gym and a beautiful spa facility for those wishing to re-energise. Also on offer are Soori Bali’s signature ‘Journeys’, available to guests seeking meaningful experiences outside the resort, whether that be a Segway tour through the rice paddies and nearby villages or a scenic helicopter ride over the spectacular coastline.
Perhaps the best use of time at Soori Bali, however, is to simply take time to contemplate and rebalance in a refuge removed from the structures of everyday life.
