The Ritz-Carlton brand has long been associated with the finer things in life. A vein of superior quality runs through their ever-expanding portfolio of luxury hotels and resorts, located in some of the most desirable destinations on earth. The Ritz-Carlton Nusa Dua, on the southern tip of Bali Island, does not fall short of this exemplary standard. Paying homage to the serene natural beauty of its surrounds, this mixed clifftop-beachfront property offers sweeping panoramic views of the Indian Ocean, breezy open spaces and, of course, all of the indulgent touches that patrons of The Ritz-Carlton have come to expect.
The first thing that guests will notice upon arrival is the striking view from the lookout platform, which takes in the entirety of the 12.7-hectare beachfront property–the elegantly landscaped tropical gardens blending seamlessly into the rugged coastline. In the spacious hotel lobby, vibrant displays of contemporary Balinese art and fragrant local flowers firmly establish a sense of place, and the staff exude a genuine warmth and hospitality from the moment of your arrival.
The resort comprises 313 luxury suites and villas with views of the ocean or the lush landscape, some with private pool access. The rooms boast a spacious, modular design punctuated by high-quality and thoughtfully appointed furnishings. We stay in the Sawangan Junior Suite and enjoy features such as a plush king-size bed, walk-in wardrobe, soaking bathtub, dual sinks and rain-showerhead. There’s even a large outdoor terrace with daybeds overlooking the ocean. We also have access to the exclusive Club Lounge, a relaxed oasis-like setting in which buffet-style dining and refreshments are available around the clock, and attentive Club Concierge staff on hand. This option is available to guests (at additional expense) when making a booking and is highly recommended to those requiring a quality workspace during their stay.
The common spaces throughout the rest of the resort should not be neglected, however. The water in the beachfront infinity pool is always warm enough for a swim and a poolside beach bed makes a wonderful spot to while away the afternoon. If you prefer ocean swimming, the property enjoys direct access to a white sandy beach. There is a strong focus on healing and wellness at the resort, a fully equipped gym and yoga studio are available to all guests and the expansive Ritz-Carlton Spa offers traditional Balinese therapies and treatments utilising natural local products like seaweed and pearls. We had a ninety-minute treatment here and it was bliss.
The Ritz-Carlton Nusa Dua, Bali, has six restaurants to choose from – each offering freshly sourced seafood and other local ingredients – couisines include Indonesian, Japanese, and Italian to name a few. The breakfast at Senses is excellent, you’re sure to find your favourites in their broad buffet offering. Clifftop Bejana serves up authentic Indonesian fare, from fish satays to Balinese-style grilled pork ribs, and enthusiastic home chefs can pick up some techniques to take home with expert-led cooking classes in their Culinary Cave. The best meal of our stay, though, was a superb prawn spaghetti dish served at The Beach Grill Restaurant.
Surprisingly close to busy Denpasar Airport, The Ritz-Carlton Nusa Dua, Bali, is sheltered from the hustle and bustle by its idyllic location as well as by the deep sense of tranquillity ingrained in the ethos of the resort. With unparalleled views, high-quality facilities and world-class cuisine, this is certainly a place to come to relax and recharge.
