Danish homewares brand HAY is no stranger to collaborations, working with innovative designers and companies around the world to create unique products that fit the brand’s ethos: functional and accessible, without compromising on style and quality.
HAY’s latest collaboration is with cult brand Sonos, the creator of smart wireless speakers that are designed to deliver rich, room-filling sound without physically taking over a space. Instead, their neat, compact, minimalist designs allow the speakers to blend seamlessly into their surroundings, appealing to the music lover and design aficionado alike.
For this limited-edition collection, available from November 2018 at sonos.com as well as in-store at HAY Sydney and Cult Design in Melbourne, HAY has applied its signature use of colour to the contemporary Sonos One speaker. Instead of Sonos’ traditional offering of black or white, this collection features five new takes on the original, with speakers coming in bold red, deep green, light grey, pastel yellow and pale pink.
Mette Hay, co-founder of HAY, said of the new designs: “These speakers deserve to be treated like furniture; strong, independent objects that can blend in or stand out – functional accessories for any room that fit different needs and different spaces.”
What hasn’t changed, though, is all the best bits of Sonos One and that’s the subtle but intelligent features that make listening to music or podcasts that much more enjoyable. As well as delivering premium sound, the speaker also has Amazon Alexa voice control built in for a hands-free experience.
The HAY x Sonos One speakers are priced slightly higher than the originals at $349 AUD but for a unique take on a modern classic, that extra $50 is more than worth it.
