Deebot Ozmo 930 Review | A Versatile Helper

The Deebot Ozmo 930 is amongst a number of robot vacuums out there now that can help with the task of cleaning your house. Although they can’t do everything just yet, they are able to take some fuss out of cleaning the floor, leaving you with more time to spend on other things.

Standing at 80mm tall, the Ozmo 930 packs a lot of power for its size. It’s Ecovac’s new intelligent household robot; the list of capabilities includes a smart navigation system, the ability to mop as well as vacuum and the smarts to know when it’s cleaning different floor surfaces.

The well-designed packaging sets the tone for what’s to come. Opening the box, we discovered neat cardboard compartments with graphic illustrations that made it easy to identify what parts came with the machine. We then put our Deebot through its paces, giving it a couple of different surfaces to tackle. Beginning with a concrete floor, it was able to pick up almost everything on the surface. When it moved to a carpeted area it automatically recognised the new floor type and worked a little bit harder to suck up built-in particles in the fibres of the fabric.

Deebot requires a bit of setting up, just like any smart gadget for the home. The best way to start is by walking with the vacuum on its first tour around every room in the house. That way it’s possible to observe any potential hazards and remove them before the robot gets to them. Deebot Omzo 930 uses its collision bumpers and Smart Navi system to map out the house and store that information, so it’s able to recognise if it’s been somewhere before. It makes its way around a room, driving along walls until it detects obstructions. For the robot to clean under chairs and furniture, it’s best to keep them off the floor while it calibrates its whereabouts.

It’s easy to control the bot from the Android or iOS app. The really cool thing about the app is that it actually shows the map that Deebot has sketched out based on its tour of the house. From here it gives the option to set virtual boundaries for areas that the cleaner should avoid; perhaps the bathroom where it might often be wet or an area with a lot of cables. Another feature is the ability to schedule the Deebot Ozmo 930 to perform the same clean daily or give it specific tasks when needed. Deebot will do a good enough job of cleaning the floor that you will only need to pick up bits here and there.Deebot Ozmo 930 Review | Your Robot Housekeeper

A smart feature of the Deebot is that it recognises when it’s running low on power and it makes its way back to the charger independently. When recharged, it will announce that it’s about to pick up where it left off and make a bee-line for that area. If it runs into anything it can’t make its way around an alert will be sent to the app. Stairs are a piece of cake for the cleaner, recognising them before taking a potential fall. When the gadget is taken to a different level in the house, it will store the previous area as a map and get to work on the new level. This is great for people with any internal stairs or differences in floor heights. For small rises between rooms often found in older houses, Deebot can manage in most cases.

That’s just the vacuum feature on the Deebot Ozmo 930. It can also remove light grime and spills from your non-carpeted areas. This is great for the many people who have floorboards or tiles throughout their house. To clean those types of floors, using both a vacuum and mop can achieve a better clean. Once the water reservoir is filled up and a microfibre cloth is attached, the robot cleaner can then make its way around, using the map of the room to polish the floor. While it definitely doesn’t have the power to remove heavy stains and tough marks, the day-to-day debris that the floor accumulates will easily be lifted from the robot vacuum’s dual action.

Deebot is a fairly quiet operator once it’s set to work. That’s ideal when there’s a device working around you at home. You’ll be able to watch TV in one room while it cleans another. Deebot Ozmo 930 is a tough little robot that is versatile and intelligent. While its price tag of $1,299 may seem steep at first, the time you’ll save cleaning the floor every week is priceless.
