Optus Pay | Why Forgetting Your Wallet Is No Longer A Problem
Why Forgetting Your Wallet Is No Longer A Problem | Optus Pay
We all rejoiced when payWave was first introduced to our credit cards. Now, more companies are taking advantage of the contactless payment technology, which is making our lives a whole lot smoother and more convenient. One of the most interesting is Optus Pay, which allows customers of the telecom company to use a compatible accessory to pay for purchases under $100. Recently they made two new additions to their line of accessories; the PayTag and Frank Green SmartCup. They join the existing range that includes a wristband, phone sticker, and SIM card for NFC-ready Android phones. Each offers entirely unobtrusive integration into our lifestyles. The sticker, for example, simply sticks onto the back of your smartphone, which you just tap on a payWave terminal to make a purchase. As someone who is prone to forgetting their wallet when heading to lunch or for a coffee, Optus Pay is a bit of a lifesaver.
I was already familiar with Frank Green and their line of reusable coffee cups, so when I found out they were now collaborating with Optus, I was even more keen to get my hands on a SmartCup. If you’re not aware of the brand or their range, essentially the SmartCups are fitted with contactless payment technology, so you can pay for a purchase with a simple tap of the cup. It’s a pretty genius idea since it encourages sustainable practices through the use of a reusable cup. Plus it’s forgiving of forgetful people like myself.
So, armed with my new SmartCup, I was ready to head out for a coffee at All Press in Sydney’s Zetland. The process of using the cup to pay couldn’t have been easier. There was no need to rummage around in my wallet in an attempt to find some change. Nor did I need to get my bank card out. I simply just held the cup up to the payWave terminal and I was good to go. The staff at the cafe were equally as impressed with the technology, as were the other customers who saw it. If you’re as forgetful as I am, or just generally dislike the hassle of carrying around multiple things when you’re just heading down to the cafe, this is the stuff of dreams.
I continued to use the SmartCup to make payments all weekend at various cafes around Sydney, and each time it worked seamlessly. By the end of the weekend there were a few points where I was walking out of the house without my phone and wallet without even feeling like I was missing something.
Having used the SmartCup with Optus Pay, I can attest to its incredible convenience. No longer is leaving my wallet in my backpack a huge annoyance. SmartCup aside, though, the other accessory options available with Optus Pay are equally as convenient. The band would be especially useful for those with active lifestyles. As a runner, I know all too well how annoying it is carrying anything when I’m training. With the band, though, you can just use your wrist to pay for that much-needed, post-run coffee on the way home.
Optus Pay is an awesome initiative to make our lives that much easier and more convenient. With accessories that offer seamless integration into our lifestyles, it’s a bit of a no-brainer to check it out if you’re an Optus customer.
