A New Collection Of Minimal Leather Bags From Dutch Brand Laauw
Madrid has been the inspiration for countless artists, architects and creatives, the latest of which is Dutch label Laauw. Transformed over the years with modern influences yet retaining quite a bit of its history, Madrid proves to be the ideal muse for the brand’s latest collection of minimal leather bags.
All of Laauw’s bags are crafted from leather, and the brand’s three founders definitely know leather. Based in Waalwijk, the heart of the Dutch leather industry, they’re surrounded by fellow craftsmen and experts. Using only the best quality materials, each piece becomes quite unique over time, amassing its own individual markings and colours.
Each bag in the collection is inspired by a particular part of Madrid and named after it’s Metro Stop; a great way of characterising their designs. For example, the shopper-style bag is named Sol, which is the shopping district of the city. Clever!
Laauw’s new range is quite extensive and covers pretty much any kind of bag you would need. One of our favourites include the Cuzco, a satchel-style design that would be ideal to take to work. Named after the business district of Madrid, the bag features two interior pockets, one of which makes for a safe laptop compartment. The Tribunal is another of our top picks from the collection, inspired by the trendy area of the city. A sleek leather backpack with solid copper detailing, it certainly lives up to its namesake.
Being young and well-travelled has also given the founders the benefit of understanding what exactly people need from something as basic as a bag. Not only do their designs offer good functionality with quality materials, but they all look very stylish too. The modern colourways of the bags also give them a really unique touch. Available in a combination of either light grey and peach or camel and blue, they’re a nice alternative to the standard range of neutral pieces on offer from other brands.
