Waikiki Oceanfront Views At Ilikai Hotel & Luxury Suites
On a recent trip to Los Angeles I decided to break up the journey and spend a week in Hawaii. After landing in Honolulu I spent four nights in Waikiki before heading to Maui. Towering above the lagoon beach towards the northern end of Waikiki is Ilikai Hotel & Luxury Suites. The hotel occupies the top levels of the iconic Ilikai building which features prominently in the opening credits of Hawaii Five-0. If views of stunning sunsets over the Pacific sound appealing then I can confirm that this is the place for you. Waikiki is an energetic melting pot of bustling shops and restaurants with a hotel lined beachfront. It’s pretty much where the action is in Hawaii and it’s a great place to spend a few days before or after heading to one of the quieter islands to chill out. The largest shopping mall in Hawaii is just down the road from the Ilikai and offers some good options for guys such as J.Crew, American Apparel & Nordstrom. As for the hotel itself, there’s no questioning where in the world you are as it has that undeniably Hawaiian vibe. A dedicated bather’s elevator lets you get from your room to the beach or hotel pool in your boardies without having to share the main elevators in the lobby with all of the other guests. When it comes to swimming you have a whole bunch of options. There’s the pool, the lagoon that the hotel overlooks or the main beach just beyond that – so you can mix it up and find your favourite spot for working on that tan you’ve promised yourself. I went out the first day, it was overcast and I wasn’t even in the sun for long and still managed to get absolutely fried so remember to constantly lather up unless you’re going for that beetroot look. The rooms are fresh, filled with natural light and on the modern end of Hawaii’s hotel room decor spectrum. Although we didn’t spend a heap of time in the room, it was awesome to have a kitchen so we could cook ourselves dinner when we were too knackered to go out. For when you do feel like going out to dinner, I’d recommend whacking on a pair of slacks and heading up to Sarento’s which is located at the very top of the Ilikai. In addition to great Italian food it offers stunning views of Waikiki. We enjoyed excellent cocktails along with a few cracking dishes, making our fanciest night in Waikiki a memorable one.Ilikai Hotel & Luxury Suites have a few different room options available. There’s mountain view and ocean view rooms to choose from, as well as two bedroom suites available, making it a great choice whether you’re with your partner, a few friends or kicking it solo. The unique design of the hotel means that different views are on offer depending on which wing of the tower you’re staying in – more than just mountain or ocean, return guests request their pick of ocean facing aspects but you’ll have to go and discover the Ilikai for yourself to find your view of choice.
