5 Reasons To Upgrade To The iPhone 6S

The iPhone 6s was released a couple of weeks ago… wait… before you start reading this, if you have an iPhone 5s or older, don’t bother reading the rest of this post. Do yourself a favour and upgrade to the iPhone 6s. But, if you have the iPhone 6, you might want to know whether it’s worth the upgrade considering that there is almost an unnoticeable physical difference between the two. That’s because all the good stuff is in the phone.DSC09819After a few days with the new phone, here are the top 5 reasons we think you should upgrade.

1. It’s Very Fast

The new iPhone 6s is up to 70% faster! This is thanks to a faster processor and the upgrade to 2gb RAM (working memory). There’s absolutely no lag switching between apps, and pages in Safari don’t need to reload when switching back to it as it is now kept in memory. I never noticed the iPhone 6 being slow before but now that I’m comparing them, there is definitely a difference in how smooth the 6s is.DSC098232. Better Cameras

Both front and back facing cameras have had significant upgrades. The main camera has gone from 8mp (mega-pixels) to 12 mp and the selfie camera has been super boosted from 1.2 mp to 5 mp. There’s a fun camera feature called ‘Live Photos’, that’s part of the iOS9 update but is only available with the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. It’s basically a short video that’s recorded along side a photo. The result is reminiscent of those moving portrait paintings from the Harry Potter movies. I really think this should have also been made available on the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus as it’s just a software upgrade and I’m sure those phones are more than capable of handling the feature.DSC098343. 3D Touch

The biggest change in iOS9 is 3D Touch, and if you don’t have the latest phone, you won’t be able to experience it because it requires a pressure sensitive screen. Some people are saying that it’s not that useful but we think the impact is going to be huge. It literally adds another dimension in which we can interact with the phone. Obviously as it’s very new, there aren’t too many apps taking advantage of this technology right now but give it a few months and I’m sure we’ll see some really great implementations from good app developers.DSC098314. 4K Video

iPhone 6s now supports 4K video and because it captures so many pixels, you can even zoom to enlarge during playback. The downside to this is that it sucks up a lot of storage and there aren’t that many ways to view 4K video at the moment. Most people only have 1080p TV’s so they won’t be able to tell the difference. On the other hand you are future proofing your videos.

5. Sell Your iPhone 6 Now

This last reason has nothing to do with the phone itself. If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll notice that whenever Apple releases a new iPhone, they will still sell the older version for a while. This means that there is still a market for the older version, so why not sell your iPhone 6 whilst there is still demand. This means that you should be able to get a reasonable price for it and then put that towards the new phone.

If you have an iPhone 6 in 128gb or gold, then you’re in luck because they aren’t available from the Apple store anymore, so it should be even easier to sell those.

There are a few more things that didn’t make the top 5 but worth noting.

  • If you own the iPhone 6, then you’ll know what a slippery sucker it is. Well, so did Apple, because the new coating on the iPhone 6s is much grippier.
  • The iPhone 6s has a new stronger glass panel, made using a special dual ion-exchange process, no idea what that means but it sounds like it should be stronger… not going to throw the phone to find out, sorry.
  • We did the greasy finger test on both the 6 and 6s glass panels and the 6s is at least 50-70% less of a grease magnet.
  • The fingerprint sensor is super fast, so fast it skips the locked screen sometimes. It also works much better now with damp fingers. When does this happen? picking up the phone right after putting down your cold glass of beer of course.
