Sitting atop the slope of the city’s main boulevard is a suitable spot for Auckland’s most sophisticated hotel. The Langham opened their doors in 1865 and with a picturesque placement and lavish interior, they have long established themselves as one of Auckland’s most prestigious hotels.
We were lucky enough to call one of their Executive Rooms home for two nights, and subsequently lived like royalty. Fittingly, A king sized bed is matched with traditional, hand carved furniture to give the room a feel like nothing you’ve ever experienced. The spacious room included a view of the city, TV, big desk for the business trip folks, fridge and coffee maker. Blackout curtains were a major plus as we were more than deserving of a sleep in, but when you do the same be sure not to doze so much you miss the buffet breakfast.
It was hyped up during check-in, but we still weren’t expecting anything this massive. You name it, they have it. Whether you’re after eggs benedict, your classic English breakfast, a cheese platter or happy with a bowl of corn flakes, The Langham can provide this. Everything is cooked fresh with chefs even on hand to help out with any particular requests. The setting is classy with coffee made upon request and a wide selection of juices to match whatever has made its way to your plate.
To continue the high-end feel, The Langham has an afternoon tea service available. Fit for Queen Elizabeth and her entourage, the setting is classy with a menu including teas from all over the world. If you’re unable to choose from the many matching foods, a set menu provides the best of the best. Neat sandwiches, sumptuous scones and mouth-watering desserts all work well with tea flavours you’re sure to have never experienced.
If you’re done exploring the city and need some time to wind down, The Langham’s Chuan Spa is on hand to provide the next level of pampering. Book a spa treatment, massage or retire to the outdoor swimming pool or jacuzzi. Heated to a very welcoming 38 degrees, it’s easy to pass up some tourist time and call it quits on the adventure front. If you’re looking for something on the other side of the spectrum, a spacious gym holds more equipment than any hotel I’ve ever stayed at.
With winter fading across the Tasman, now’s as good a time as any to check out New Zealand. For a complete look at all the rooms and facilities available at The Langham, click the link below.
