Last month I wrote an article about how I found out that getting a simple Citibank account can get you free wine at a bunch of restaurants, every time you dine. To recap, all you have to do is apply for one of their credit cards or bank accounts that include the Citibank Dining Program and you get the perk plus more.
I decided to test it out at Sydney’s hottest restaurant, Sepia. It’s on the Citibank Dining Program partner list and I figured that if I could get free wine at a place like that then it must be too good and also be true.
Arriving at the restaurant, I could see one of the Sepia staff rushing towards the door to welcome us. It was a good sign of attentiveness, a trait I always look for in a good restaurant. We were swiftly seated and our jackets taken care of. After getting comfortable we were offered the wine list by the sommelier. I nervously asked… “Umm do you have the Citibank wines?”, expecting to be questioned about what that meant and having to cause a fuss… but without skipping a heartbeat, the response was “yes certainly sir, the Citibank wine we have is the 2012 Camino Del Pelegrino, Albarino”. Too easy! I’m not much of a wine connoisseur but let’s just say it was an easy drop and went down very well with the seafood dishes. We chose the $200 tasting course for each person and I was glad that the wine price was not going to contribute to the rest of the bill. My favourite fine dining restaurant is Quay, and Sepia is now certainly a worthy contender. I believe everyone has a different dining experience when it comes to fine dining and expectations have a lot to do with it – so without saying too much and potentially ruining your experience, I do recommend taking your favourite person there for a special treat. My favourite dish was the Roasted Aylesbury duck breast with candied fuyu persimmon and dried fennel wild strawberry vinegar. I don’t even know what half of that means but it had duck and it was amazing.
At the end of the meal, I couldn’t move as I ate too much. The bill arrived and sure enough the wine was free provided that I paid for it with my Citibank card. What a sweet way to finish an awesome meal.
To find out what other magnificent restaurants you can dine at and get free wine, check out the restaurant list here.
I also stumbled across this Citibank foodie promotion when I was browsing the restaurants. Once you’re a card member make sure you sign up for a chance to win some pretty amazing prizes including being flown to Sydney for a meal at Sepia.
If you like to eat then you’ll be excited about Good Food Month returning in October. There’s seriously so much value packed into this dining program I don’t know how to tell you without sounding like a used car salesman.
Just found out you can get free entrees and desserts from participating restaurants during Good Food Month. Check here for details.
There’s also the Noodle Night Markets, don’t sit with the commoners… there’s actually a Citibank VIP tent where there’s comfortable seating so you don’t need to rub elbows with a stranger who’s hoeing down their wontons.
