Headphones are a very personal thing and there are a few things you should look for before purchasing a pair. Firstly, the design has to suit your personal style. Then the sound that they produce should work for your preferred genre of music. And finally, when you put them on, they should help you escape the world around you.
I put the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay H8 headphones to the test. When I first saw the H8 Headphones in gold and beige, it was a little overwhelming. That’s because most headphones are either black or white and not many brands are bold enough to make a statement. Well, here’s a statement if you’re ever looking for one.
Once I calmed down a bit from the bling and looked around me, they actually appeared to blend in quite well with my other belongings. A gold coloured Apple Macbook, a tanned golden leather backed LG G4 phone and some pastel gold coloured bananas… some might just call them yellow.
The H8 Headphones perform well with great mid-tones and excellent bass. The sound is crisp and clear and there’s yet to be a song where I have felt that they have not delivered a great performance. The headphones are very comfortable to wear and as they don’t cover the ear entirely, hot ears are not a problem. They also have the added benefit of noise cancelling which helps draws you into a world of your own as demonstrated by the guy in the photo below. He looks blissfully in a world of his own. Having said that, the noise cancelling does an ok job, if there’s any room for improvement, that should be the focus. Perhaps there was a compromise between excellent noise cancelling and the form and design of the headset.
You can use the headphones with a cable or without via bluetooth – which is really handy, especially when you’re doing something where you don’t want to be tethered by a tangle of cables. To play, pause, change the volume, skip the track or turn noise cancelling on/off, all you need to do is swipe on the invisible controls on the right side of the headphone. It’s a very neat and handy feature.
At RRP $679.95, you’d want to look after these babies. They do come with a soft travel bag where you can keep the headphones and cables together. If gold isn’t your thing they also come in a black with dark brown leather version.
